We were scheduled for cooking duty this morning and since
everyone had a hard time with winds yesterday everyone was keen on getting out
early. We cooked some pancakes, oatmeal, yoghurt and bread and other things. We
wrapped up camp earlier than usual, fir a galley crew, and were on the road for 8.30 am.
I set out ride with Ron, Keith, Michael, Margaret, Jack and
Kendra. It was windy all the way and all we could do at the time was keeping
our heads down and keep pushing. Marg, Jack and Kendra moved at a relatively
faster pace and so Michael, Keith, Ron and I paced ourselves properly and took
break every 20 km or so. We were doing pacelining and since the wind was from
side, we had to look the road constantly for traffic. The morning was
uneventful until we got closer to Rosetown where a police car warned us to not
ride on the highway since it was a weekend and it was busy during the morning. After
that we broke our pattern for pacelining and got in to Rosetown for some lunch.
I had a foot long sub and Doritos. We left around 12.45pm from Rosetown for
Outlook and by that time Marg and Jack joined us as well. We rode in to Outlook
and we had a nice downhill to the valley and rode over the river. The downhill
also meant that we had a steady 1 km climb. We waited for Marg at the top to
catch up and went in to a gas station and chugged down 2 L of chocolate milk
between 4 of us (Marg, Jack, Ron and I).
We got in to camp around 6.20pm and had our dinner Chicken
Catalina on rice noodles (tofu in coconut sauce on rice noodles). There was the
longest pedestrian bridge in the town and there was a river (that many people
went for a swim), but I was too tired to venture out on either of those. I set
up tent after dinner overlooking the river and sunset was very pretty.
