I didn’t eat adequately last night and found myself low on
energy. I had some French toast and porridge with yoghurt, but didn’t found it
less filling.
We started out around 7.45am with Keith, Ron, Michael and I
at a relatively steady pace. After about 30 km in to the ride the pace was a
bit too fast and I had to drop out of the pace line and rode by myself. Ron
stayed back for me and rode with me until I got my energy back together. We
stopped in Kenaston at an antique place that also sold ice-cream and I had a
couple scoops. Kenaston, supposedly, has the largest snowman statue and not
many were interested in going but I went on anyways. It wasn’t as big as I
expected it to be, but it was cool nonetheless. I headed out from Kenaston and
soon caught up with others on the road. By this time I joined pace line with
Ron, Keith, Michael and Cor and hung out at the back and it made my spirits
recover a bit. We stopped for a subway around 40 Km from our destination. That
hit the spot right on and about 5 km after that stop I started leading the pace
line and felt really good to be in the front and take in all the wind. We rode
at around 27kmph for a while but eventually slowed down as others kept falling
behind.
About 7 kms before the destination we saw a moose on the
side of the road, but unfortunately it had been hit by a vehicle and it was
lying dead on the side of the road. Some of the group members from the east
coast who are used to moose said that it was a cow moose (female moose without antlers)
and that it was a fresh kill. I said some prayers and we started on our final
few km’s.
We got in to camp around 3.45 pm set up tent under tree
shade, had a shower, and were set up for dinner. Dinner tonight was vegetable
stew, salad and fresh fruit (out of a can) and I found the dinner very filling
and was very happy.
